George Manolescue FCA FCCA
A fellow of both ICAEW and ACCA George has over 35 years’ post qualified experience, he also has over a third of a century working with the dental profession. He established DBS in 1990 and continues to work with motivated dental professionals who wish to make the most of their professional opportunities. George actively runs the business building strong partnerships and alliances with other areas of the profession. UK dentistry is a constant fascination for George and working with the great team that is DBS makes it even more enjoyable for him. George knows since the creation of DBS more than 20 years ago, the sector has changed enormously and still continues to fascinate him, he admits it is his life’s work and will remain so for some time to come.
Away from the office his joy is spending time with his wife Prue, their three daughters, and their four grandchildren all the while with Basil the dog following him around. George’s passions are fast cars, Rugby Union, great wine, good company and rock and blues, with an overall favorite; Led Zeppelin.
Nick Stewart FCCA ACA
Is a Chartered Accountant and partner at DBS. With over 17 years’ experience of advising dentists, he demystifies dental accounts for his clients and helps them understand the financial side of dentistry, specialising in annual accounts, bookkeeping and management accounts. Nick has seen literally 1000s of dental accounts over the years and has built up a wealth of benchmarking expertise to show dentists where they are winning and losing. Nick is passionate about DBS and its 100% focus on the dental profession and how every member of our team is a specialist in their own right.
In his own time Nick enjoys various activities including golf, tennis, going to the cinema and reading. He also supports his two sons’ football teams (as well as Arsenal) and walks the family dog, Onry, with his wife, Sue.
Judith Carrington
Judith originally joined DBS in 1994 as George’s PA. Now the business manager Judith’s role encompasses a multitude of exciting and challenging tasks on a daily basis. Although the extent of her role has reduced the direct contact with our client base, she is still very much aware of the changes happening within the industry and across the business. She loves being part of a team dedicated to the dental profession and she relishes being part of the solution provided to our clients.
In her own time Judith’s young daughter keeps her mind and body active whether on the Wii, football court or with never-ending ‘why’s’. They especially love walking, particularly amongst the autumn leaves.
Nathan Poole ACCA MAAT
Is a Chartered Accountant and business consultant, joining DBS in 1999 he now has over ten years’ experience working exclusively for dentists. He advises dentists on developing their practices through services such as practice acquisitions and disposal, setting up in practice, business plans, cashflow forecasts, calculating expense sharing agreements for associates, implementing management systems, and fee setting. He appreciates being part of a professional and hardworking team that also has fun. Nathan is also the DBS QuickBooks specialist for bookkeeping software; he manages the system implementation and delivers all the training across the practice, and appreciates the depth of knowledge being a specialist comes with.
Away from the office Nathan loves playing football, reading and also claims to do a lot of DIY. He has two young children that keep him busy but states are ‘an absolute joy and my beautiful wife keeps me honest’.
Lee Comiskey
Lee originally joined DBS in 2005 as an administrator in the tax department. She then remained in the office but moved across to an associated DBS company offering patient payment plans. Lee administers all areas of the business, meeting with practice principals and managers, talking to any of their patients with enquiries whilst completing the day to day duties. Lee loves the team and management at DBS and is a very loyal and conscientious staff member.
In her personal time Lee, as a hobby breeds and shows British Shorthair cats. She also enjoys reading and travel.
Lisa Monaghan
Lisa has enjoyed working with George as his personal assistant for the last four years. She joined DBS in 2005 and following the departure of his previous PA, Lisa made the decision to take on the challenge of supporting George. Whilst she works closely with George, Lisa is also very involved in any project and consultancy work often being a regular point of contact for clients. Lisa is friendly and approachable with a wicked sense of humour and enjoys working with the friendly DBS team.
Away from DBS she enjoys spending time with her husband and two teenage sons, socialising with friends and playing golf. Lisa also enjoys reading with her favourite book being ‘The Vampire Lestat’ by Anne Rice. Another pastime is watching movies, but she stands by her opinion the worst movie ever seen ‘Pokemon, The Movie’ the things we do for/with our children!
Penny Bowen FCCA CTA
A Fellow Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor Penny joined DBS in 2006 and now has over five years’ experience working exclusively for dentists and assists in all areas of taxation services. Penny has an expert and up-to-date knowledge of UK tax legislation and advises dentists, therapists and hygienists throughout all stages of their careers. This involves managing their tax liabilities through services such as tax savings on building works, practice acquisition or disposal and practice incorporation. In addition to this, Penny specialises in assisting clients with questions about the NHS superannuation scheme. Penny loves working with friendly, knowledgeable and clever clients and colleagues, within an organisation that supports and encourages professional training. She also loves the variety of her work with no two days being the same.
When at home not being the DBS tax genius Penny can be found cooking, shooting or running. She enjoys spending time with her ‘gorgeous family’ or watching an episode of “House”.
Darren Nicholson BSc Econ MAAT
With four years’ accounting experience solely for dentists after joining DBS in 2008, he specialises in the preparation of year-end accounts and as such has encountered most accounts issues specific to the dental industry. Darren has assisted numerous dental limited companies over the years, from the original incorporation through to the final winding up and everything in between. He relishes being part of the DBS team, working with our educated and successful clients and meeting their high demand for premium service. Darren also manages the payroll bureau at DBS and can advise on issues with regard to staff pay, Pension and NHS superannuation deductions.
In his personal time Darren admits he is a keen but very poor golfer and archer, a dedicated volunteer at Oxfam in the bookshop for 5 years which indulges his love for science fiction novels. Also a keen mountain trekker having recently visited the Scottish Highlands and Morocco he now plans to ascend Mont Blanc.
Martin Burgess
Joined DBS in 2007 having spent over thirty years in the food industry. His experience covers managment accounting within both production and commercial environments, with a heavy emphasis on both budgeting and forecasting. Martin’s responsibilities are mainly on the administrative side of the accounting, managing the flow of documentation from clients through to the preparation of the final accounts and the return of the clients’ records. Martin loves the friendly environment of DBS and the flexibility of the company.
In his private time Martin enjoys more than the odd round of golf, DIY and holidays.
Kelly Webster
Has worked in accountancy firms for 17 years and studied the Association of Accounting Technicians, joining DBS in 2008 as Nick’s personal assistant. January 2010 saw Kelly become business coordinator and she now has a multifaceted role having her original duties to Nick plus, administration and internal DBS systems responsibilities. Kelly administers and assists in our patient credit facility and an affiliate company offering patient payment plans. Kelly loves that DBS gives you growth in your role to develop and training to achieve more. She is currently studying credit management with the Institute of Credit Management (ICM).
In her personal time Kelly enjoys holidays and city breaks with her teenage son, their most magical trip was spending Christmas in New York. She is very active regularly at Body Combat or Body Attack classes, avoiding the monotony of the treadmill. In the summer Kelly is a festival girl and can be found soaking up the sounds at Global Gathering or Creamfields.
Carole Singleton
Has been with DBS since 2008 and she is our time and fees administrator. She also administers the client payments and ensures that the direct debits are processed correctly. Carole loves being part of a dedicated team providing not only a specialist but personal service.
Outside of work Carole enjoys staying in her caravan and walking in the New Forest, as well as being a Phoenix card trader where Carole fundraises for Children’s Hospices. In her spare time Carole enjoys listening to Jazz music, gluten-free cookery and spending time with her grandson.
Peter Lambert FCCA
A fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants Peter has over twenty five years’ experience, joining DBS in 2009 after working within the corporate sector. He handled monthly and annual reporting, business planning which included mergers and acquisitions. Peter now specialises in all areas concerning Associate Dentists and thoroughly enjoys dealing with his clients. This includes the introduction to self employment following their Foundation Dentist year, preparing annual accounts, advising tax liabilities and advising in their future business moves through to practice acquisition.
Outside of the office Peter can be found as a groundsman at a prestigious Oxfordshire Cricket Club, where they recently hosted the Woman’s India vs. New Zealand match. He is also a committed season ticket holder for (currently) League One Wycombe Wanderers. With any spare time left Peter will enjoy a game of golf or social occasions with family.
Penny Levett
Penny has been a marketing professional for 11 years with a wide range of industry background. She joined DBS in July 2011 from a large accountancy institute to raise the profile of DBS. Launching a new website and rebranding DBS has been Penny’s primary focus since her arrival. She is working with various industry contacts to ensure DBS is seen in the right places and that potential clients understand why they need a specialised dental accountant. Penny loves the challenge ahead of her at DBS and the positive attitude of each of the team and their excitement about the changes ahead.
Outside of work Penny enjoys walking but admits should do more than she does, reading a good thriller with current favourite author being Karin Slaughter. She confesses to being obsessed with CSI: NY and Dexter. She loves her weekends socialising and enjoys a good glass of Pinot or Rioja.
Louise O’Dell
Louise joined DBS in September 2011 as their Payroll Controller. Louise has taken on managing the payrolls for the clients of DBS, together with various other administration roles. Louise is looking forward to a new challenge and working for a professional and well established company.
In her spare time Louise likes to exercise regularly, in particular Jazzercise, Zumba and swimming. Louise loves music and regularly goes to concerts and enjoys a glass of rose wine!
